Generally, babies get their first teeth at 6 month of age; though not all

babies get them at one time so a + or - range of 3 months is considered.

Teething can be a little hard and new for the baby to handle.

Here’s how you can help your toddler.

SIGNS OF TEETHING

1. IRRITABILITY

As the kid cannot speak or convey how he is feeling during the eruption

of teeth, the pressure and slight pain of the erupting tooth can keep the

child irritated.

2. BITING

As gums become sore after eruption of teeth, child bites on hard things

to cope up with the soreness/pain in gums.

3. DROOLING

As a soothing mechanism, the child’s body tries to calm the sore gums

by producing excessive saliva in the toddlers mouth which can comfort

the baby.

4. LOW GRADE FEVER

You may notice low grade fiver (upto 99 degree F) during teething.

Any fever higher than this range should immediately be treated by the child’s

physician.

HOW TO COMFORT A TEETHING CHILD

1. RUB YOUR BABY’S GUMS

ree

Using a clean finger/soft muslin cloth or a gum pad dipped in cold water

rub your baby’s gums as this pressure can ease the baby’s discomfort.

2. KEEP IT COOL

You can give some child (not frozen ) toys to the kid bite on; easing the

discomfort Remember to boil the teethes before giving them to the

baby. It is better to avoid frozen teethes (might hurt the teeth) or toys

with gel which the child can puncture.

3. HARD FOODS

If the child has started eating hard foods, put some vegetables in the

freezer for 2-3 minutes before giving to the child. He/she can nibble on

carrots, radish, or cucumber.

4. MEDICATION

If your child is specially cranky or has low grade fever, try giving some

paracetamol or Ibuprofen with the consent of the Doctor.
