Milk teeth start appearing at the age of 6 months & by the age of 3 years, most children have all their 20 teeth erupted.

Milk teeth are known to shed off eventually and thus are not taken care of by the parents. Thus, the dental health of toddlers with milk teeth is neglected.

Here we will discuss about the importance of maintaining healthy milk teeth.

1) MILK TEETH GUIDE PERMANENT TEETH INTO PLACE

The primary teeth maintain space for adult teeth to erupt in the desired / natural position.

If the baby tooth is lost early due to tooth decay, the nearby baby teeth drift and tip towards the empty space to fill it .Therefore, about tooth is left with very less space to erupt for which the kid has to go through an Orthodontic Treatment (Braces)

for the correction of these type of unerupted & malaligned teeth.

SOLUTION :Get your kid examined by the dentist every 6 months so that your doctor can save their teeth. Even if there is a situation in which your dentist has to pull the baby tooth out, let your dentist give a space maintainer to the kid so that the empty space after loss tooth is maintained for the about tooth to erupt.

2) HEALTHY ADULT TEETH

The roots of erupted baby teeth are very close to the crowns of unerupted adult teeth lying inside the bone.

Infection inside the baby tooth spreads very fast to the adult teeth.

3) SPEECH & DEVELOPMENT OF FACE

It is very important to have presence & proper positioning of baby teeth as it assists and guides in proper pronunciation during speech. The teeth also provide a big support for the development of muscles jaw growth & development of the face.

4) PHYSICAL HEALTH & SELF ESTEEM

A child who has continuos dental pain will be reluctant to eating, compromising on his nutrition . Also loss of teeth can degrade his self esteem and scar him/her emotionally.

Thus it is important to inculcate good habits like brushing twice daily in your child at a

tender age.

Also do not forget to take them to the dentist twice a year as soon as they turn one!
