Scaling is a simple process of cleaning your teeth and gums from stains and tartar deposits and is a regular oral hygiene measure which needs to be followed in order to maintain a good oral hygiene.

Myth #1.
Scaling is Painful & Removes Enamel.
The Scaler-an instrument used in the process does not have any cutting edges and
simply produces vibration which breaks the hard tartar off the tooth. Thus can't and
doesn't remove enamel which is anyways the hardest structure of tooth.
If something produces a mere vibration how can it hurt anyone? Scaling is really
comfortable procedure.
Myth #2.
Scaling makes teeth mobile.
When regular scaling is not done, tartar slides into the bone and weakens it thus
causing teeth becoming loose. Regular scaling prevents teeth from becoming loose.
Myth #3.
Scaling causes gaps in between teeth.
The deposit of tartar is almost the same colour as of the tooth. After Scaling, when
tartar is removed, one sometimes feels like a portion of tooth is lost leading to a gap
(known as black triangle) between the teeth.
This gap is healthy and free of tartar which had earlier eaten gums in between the teeth and occupied its space with regular care, the gums grow back to this gap in around 6 months.
Just like we take bath, trim our nails, go for a haircut after regular intervals, scaling is th need of the body and a part of oral hygiene measures we take to keep our body functional.

Thus, scaling should become a part of oral hygiene every 6 months!
