For kiddos, first dental visits can sometimes be a scary proposition.

 Read on for a fun & fear free trip to the dentist.

1. NEVER PASS YOUR DENTAL FEAR TO THE CHILD

-Studies have shown that parents pass their anxiety to their children. No matter how hard it is for you, make sure you don’t talk anything negative to them. Do not use words like ‘pain’, ‘drill’,‘injection’, ‘blood’ etc in front of the child.

2. DO NOT TELL THE CHILD ABOUT THE APPOINTMENT TOO FAR IN ADVANCE

-Let’s not give the child much time to imagine scenarios and listen to others who might scare him out.

Do not use the word ‘Doctor', just tell them you are going to see someone who will help him/her brighten their smile.

3. BUILD FAMILIARITY

-Take them to one of your regular dental checkups to help them to get familiar with the dentist, his staff and the office.

4. GIVE YOUR CHILD SOME ALONE TIME WITH THE DENTIST

-Your dentist, with your permission might ask you to wait outside while he/she gets to befriend your child by showing them some magic tricks, playing games & promising rewards after treatment.

At DMDS, we prefer to spend plenty of time with the kids before we take them to the dental chair.

Spending time alone with the kid gives him/her independence & ownership over the Dentist & a sense of pride on the completion of treatment.

5. PROMISE REWARDS

Our Little Munchkin colouring her favourite animal while getting treated on the dental chair.

- Our Reception is filled with colouring books, magic pads and drawing slates to make the child feel entertained.

-At DMDS, we give children plenty of distractions while we perform dental treatment on the

chair. Some kids like to take their colouring book to the dental chair and continue colouring in

short breaks given by our dentist.

-Rewards are promised towards the end of treatment which can be anything such as a ‘take away toy’, glove balloon, magic sketching pads and/or colours!

6. MAKE DENTAL CHECKUP & HEALTHCARE A ROUTINE

-Ideally, one should bring their child to the dentist by their first birthday.

After that appointments at a 6 months interval are fine.

But, monitor your Child’s Brushing Routine by making them colour their

‘Toothbrushing colouring chart’ provided by us.
