As parents , sometimes it becomes a tough task to handle children in their teen
age but for the sake of children, their oral health should be one of the priorities.
Let’s Discuss some quick hacks, tricks & a few things all parents should be aware
of in order to manage your teen:
1. BASIC ORAL HYGIENE

Best go for this is to ‘catch them young’ Make sure you inculcate twice brushing &
flossing habit in your kids at a young age itself. Also make sure you practice good
oral also make sure you practice good oral hygiene yourself in front of them.
2. TALK TO THAM ABOUT IMPORTANCE OF ORAL HEALTH
Sit with them & explain why it is important to maintain a healthy mouth & what
all effects can be seen emotionally, mentally physically and financially if they
don't do so.
3. BE AWARE OF WHAT YOUR TEEN IS UP TO
There are a couple of bad habits & addictions that teens sometimes develop due
to peer pressure. Parents should always keep an eye on such instances:

I. SMOKING - Everyone knows the harmful effects of smoking.
Sense it if your child is getting caught in the trap.
If you notice bad breath, stained teeth and tongue talk to them & explain why they need to quit it.
II. METH MOUTH - A term used for damaged mouth caused by the use of a
drug –methamphetamine.
Use of meth can lead to devastating effects not only on the mouth but to the whole body.

4. MOUTH PIERCINGS & JEWELLERY
Make sure you educate your child enough to stay away from such forms of
fashion which may appear ‘cool’ to them , But actually they can cause the
mouth/tongue which has been pierced to swell up to such an extent that it
becomes difficult to breathe & proves fatal. Also one can easily choke on a
jewellery or crack a tooth while accidentally biting on it.

5. IRREGULAR TEETH
Your child might have low self esteem because their teeth are crooked or uneven.
Help them by taking them to a dentist & having a consultation for braces and gift them their confidence back. It is important for you to talk to the child first and ensure that they understand the need and benefits of dental treatment.
The Key to Your Teens Heart Is Communication.
