WATCH THE CHILDREN GROW!

Dental practices often witness children growing their first teeth to shedding them all and entering into all adult teeth club!

But while your dentist takes care of the growth and development of teeth through all phases of your child’s life, it is important for you to be aware of the same.


Let’s take a tour to the growth of your child stepwise:


No teeth (age 0-6 months)

-Witness edentulous mouth for the first 6 months and clean your child’s gum pads with a damp clean cloth.


Eruption of 1st tooth (age 6-8 months)

Lower front teeth are usually the first ones to erupt.

-Witness eruption of first teeth which happen to be mandibular centrals usually at the age of 6-8 months. Time to start brushing your child’s teeth age 6 months to 3 years.




Age 6 months to 3 years

-Witness eruption of all milk teeth one by one till the end of the third year. By now, your toddler has all 20 milk teeth.



Shedding of lower front teeth.

5.5-6 years

-Your child’s jaw starts growing bigger and start noticing loose/ mobile teeth which is good sign as the milk teeth shall start to fall off. The first ones to fall off are the lower/upper front teeth.








6-7 years

-First permanent tooth erupts at the back of the last milk tooth- a Permanent Molar.

This tooth erupts independently and is not followed by shedding of any milk tooth.




6-8 years

Eruption of the lower permanent teeth.

-On the other hand, after shedding of the lower and upper front teeth, permanent lower and upper front teeth are destined to erupt.







By 13 years of age

-On entering the teen age, your child will have all permanent teeth after all milk teeth got

exfoliated.




After 17 years of age

The third molar trying to find it's space to erupt.

-The third molars are the most tricky and interesting teeth which start erupting at 17 years of age and can take years or decades to erupt.

Sometimes, they might cause discomfort while erupting for which you need to see a Dentist.










Through all phases, do not forget take your child for a 6 month checkup. So that your dentist monitors any abnormality or variation in development of jaw and

eruption of teeth.
